Silver baby gifts ideas

silver or pewter baby gift says I care and with style! Silver baby gifts are a classic and elegant way to celebrate a baby's birth or any first year special occasion.

Baby gifts made from silver are one of the most traditional gifts you can give a newborn and a new set of parents. There are a wide variety of whimsical and useful gifts made from solid silver. Select a gift that can be displayed first in a nursery and later can be used by the child as he grows up and learns to appreciate the symbolism and utility of the gift.

Healthy Baby Snacks

There are things I’d call the "basics" that you’ve probably already heard -- Cheerios, any type of "mini" cracker (our son likes the goldfish, but there are also Ritz, cheese nips and so on), cut-up bites of soft fruit & cereal bars, and graham cracker sticks (or teddy grahams) that are broken into smaller pieces.  Basically, with any type of snack like this, I just always made sure that the item could dissolve fairly easily, and that the pieces were small.  (And I’d avoid those teething biscuit things like the plague at *any* age -- those things scared the heck out of me!!!)

The other couple of things that I really like come from Gerber, and are pre-packaged so they fit neatly in the diaper bag (and you could write your child’s name on the outside of the individual bags, so the daycare folks know to whom they belong).

The first is their packages of bite-sized, freeze-dried fruit.  They come in apple, strawberry/banana, corn and banana/pineapple (my son only likes the first 2 flavors), are simply freeze-dried fruit w/o any preservatives, and the package can be resealed for later use.  They are a bit crunchy at first, but then reconstitute from the child’s saliva and are very easy to chew and swallow.  (And my son has had swallowing issues, so we were glad to find something like this!)

The second is their fruit strips.  I double-checked the label before buying them, and found they use only fruit and fruit purees to make them -- no preservatives -- and they aren’t gummy/sticky like what I thought they’d be.  They seem, to me, to be a melt-in-the-mouth type of thing, which is important for young eaters.

On a side note, Gerber also has multi-packs of veggie and cheese crackers meant for tots, but my son never liked the flavors.  For what it’s worth, we found it just as easy (and much more cost-effective) to put whatever flavor cracker (mini goldfish, mini Ritz, etc.) in the "snack" sized baggies and put those in the diaper bag.

I probably should have asked if your child was eating many table foods yet and will note here that the above suggestions are given only if s/he is doing some chewing and is supervised while eating.  If ever in doubt, I don’t think it’s worth the risk to chance it.

Gyro Bowl Reviews
My mornings before I leave the house are the most hectic part of the day. I have four kids with the youngest being a messy toddler who insists on feeding himself. There was rarely a morning that we didn't end up with cereal across the kitchen floor! When a co-worker came by to pick me up one morning, she said she could relate to my problem and that she had something she thought could help me out. The next day, she brought me a Gyro Bowl. It was kind of funny looking for a child's bowl but my co-worker promised me that it was the best thing she had ever found to use with her own kids. Gyro Bowl is an innovative design that rotates, swivels, and dips in each direction so that dry food contents are difficult to spill. The Gyro Bowl literally defies gravity by using a weighted inner bowl that rotates 360 degrees in order to catch the bowl's contents as they go from one side to the other.

Not only have my mornings gotten easier, but I have far fewer messes all the time. Gyro Bowl is even easy to clean. It's made of polypropylene plastic and is in three parts that disassemble to wash. I just wish they had come out with Gyro Bowl when I had my first three kids and I would have had a lot fewer messes to clean up!

The attraction to these Cookie Dough Press Makers is that they allow very unique shapes and sizes of cookies to be made. It's a wonderful tool to help kids understand their way around the kitchen, and enjoy the creative process. I am no longer involved in the arts, but I do reference my artistic upbringing for helping me with my business advancements over the years. Creativity can never be overlooked, and the Press Dough Cookie Maker is one way to address this need while having a good time with your little ones.

Happy Nappers, Catchy song

Well, now with the Happy Nappers, we have a situation where the Play Toy can be zipped into the Play Pillow. Yep, the makers have turned the one into the other. When it's time for the pillow, the child simply zips up his or her toy into the pillow and rests away. When he or she awakes, it's time to unzip the pillow and bring out the favorite friend.

On top of that, the selection the makers have provided really is quite good. I must say that I had a difficult time choosing. They all look so cute. I went with Igloo to Penguin and Barn to Cow. I wish I'd had one when I was a child.
I have to say that the simple solutions out there that continually surface always do surprise me. Happy Nappers qualifies as just that.

Healthy snacks for your baby and kids

A piece of fruit is probably the most healthful snack going. But there are plenty of other nourishing alternatives to junk food that your child will love. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Baked chips. Deep-fried potato chips typically get more than half of their calories from fat. Stock up on baked chips instead. A one-ounce serving of Kettle Crisps, for instance, gets just 15 of its 110 calories from fat. Baked tortilla chips are another good choice; you can find flavorful brands that get only a third of their calories from fat.

    Food and Recipes

Find and share great recipes for meals that will please the whole family.
  • Fruit bars. Fig Newtons are low in fat and provide fiber and potassium. Raisin biscuits are another great choice. Only 20 percent of their calories come from fat, and the best brands are loaded with those crinkly iron-rich bits of sweetness.
  • Frozen fruit bars. The best of these frozen treats contain chunks of real fruit — orange, pineapple, peach, and banana, to name a few. They're a great, fat-free summer refresher.
  • Fudgsicles. The classic American frozen treat deserves high praise. One bar has just 90 calories and only about a gram of fat.
  • Fruit juice. Make sure it's 100 percent fruit, with no added sugar, and you'll give your child the goodness of fruit in a tall, refreshing glass.
  • Energy drinks. On a hot day when your kid just won't slow down, a sports drink like Gatorade can stave off dehydration. Some children who resist drinking water will happily gulp one of these sweet-tasting drinks.
  • Fruit shakes. Whip together a banana, a splash of fruit juice, and a handful of berries in your blender, and you've got a nutritious shake. You can add yogurt for more protein and calcium. For the best consistency, freeze the fruit beforehand or use frozen yogurt.

Key Points when preparing baby food

Key points to remember when making homemade baby food & introducing solid foods

ALWAYS consult your pediatrician prior to beginning any new food for your infant. Discuss making homemade baby food with your pediatrician and visit our Baby Solid Food Charts for information regarding what foods to introduce to baby and when. You may also wish to visit theWorld Health Organization, the American Academy of PediatricsHealth CanadaHealth Insite - Australia and the Department of Public Health (U.K.) to learn more about baby food and infant feeding.

ALWAYS follow the 4 day wait rule when introducing a new food to baby - offer your baby the same new food for 4 days to test for allergies to that food. This applies even when you are making homemade baby food. Never introduce more than 1 new food at a time.

ALWAYS use clean hands, clean cooking utensils, preparation surface(s), pots/pans etc when making and and preparing homemade baby food. Cleanliness and Food Safety is a MUST when making homemade baby food.

And Finally All babies are different and will not like/tolerate the same foods or food textures. Do Not Despair. You should be willing to experiment with baby solid food for your baby. Offer your baby different foods, use different ways of preparing those baby foods and be willing to have a huge store of patience.
